How Much Does Car Window Tinting Cost in Calgary?

If you’re looking for window tinting in Calgary, the cost depends on three key factors: the type of tint film you choose, how many windows you want tinted, and whether you go with a professional installer or attempt a DIY job. At Pro Window Tinting, we exclusively use 3M automotive window films backed by a lifetime warranty — so you’re getting the highest quality product on the market.

Here’s a straightforward breakdown of our current pricing for the three 3M tint grades we carry:

3M Carbon (Colour Stable) — Starting at $299

3M’s Colour Stable series uses nano-carbon technology that won’t fade or turn purple over time. It’s the ideal entry point for drivers who want reliable UV protection, glare reduction, and a clean look without breaking the bank.

  • 2 Front Windows: $299
  • Back Windows (rear + rear sides): $499
  • Full Vehicle (all side + rear): $599

3M Ceramic IR — Starting at $349

The 3M Ceramic IR series is our most popular choice for Calgary drivers. It uses advanced ceramic particle technology to reject significantly more infrared heat than carbon films — keeping your vehicle noticeably cooler in summer while maintaining excellent clarity.

  • 2 Front Windows: $349
  • Back Windows: $649
  • Full Vehicle: $799
  • Full Vehicle + Windshield: $1,199
  • Windshield Only: $599

3M Crystalline — Starting at $599

3M Crystalline is the premium tier — a virtually clear film that rejects more heat than many dark tints. It’s the top choice for drivers who want maximum heat rejection without changing the look of their vehicle, and it’s particularly popular for windshield applications.

  • 2 Front Windows: $599
  • Back Windows: $999
  • Full Vehicle: $1,199
  • Full Vehicle + Windshield: $1,799
  • Windshield Only: $899

What Factors Affect Window Tinting Prices?

1. Film Quality and Brand

The single biggest factor in window tinting cost is the film itself. Cheap films from unknown manufacturers might save you money upfront, but they typically fade, bubble, and peel within 2-3 years. 3M films are engineered to last the lifetime of your vehicle, and they come with a manufacturer’s warranty to back that up. You can learn more about the differences in our window tint brand comparison guide.

2. Vehicle Size and Window Count

Larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs sometimes require more film material and more installation time, though our flat-rate pricing covers standard configurations for all vehicle types. Specialty vehicles or unusual window shapes may require a custom quote.

3. Number of Windows Being Tinted

Most customers choose one of three packages: front windows only (the two front door windows), rear windows only (rear windshield plus rear passenger windows), or full vehicle. Adding windshield tinting is available with 3M Ceramic IR and Crystalline films.

4. Tint Darkness Level (VLT)

The darkness of your tint — measured in Visible Light Transmission (VLT) — doesn’t typically affect the price. However, it’s important to know Alberta’s window tinting laws before choosing your shade. Front side windows must allow at least 50% VLT in Alberta.

Is Professional Window Tinting Worth the Cost?

We get this question a lot. The short answer: yes, and here’s why.

Professional installation with quality film means you’re getting a product that will last 15-20+ years without bubbling, peeling, or discoloring. A professional installer has the tools, environment, and experience to deliver a flawless result — no dust particles trapped under the film, no creases on curved windows, and proper edge-to-edge coverage.

DIY tinting kits cost $30-$100, but the failure rate is extremely high. Most DIY jobs end up being redone professionally within a year, meaning you’ve paid twice. You can read more about this in our DIY vs professional installation guide.

Why 3M Window Tinting Costs More (and Why It’s Worth It)

3M is the industry standard for automotive window film. Their products are used by dealerships and professional shops worldwide. Here’s what you’re paying for:

  • Lifetime manufacturer warranty — 3M stands behind every film they produce
  • Non-metallized construction — won’t interfere with GPS, cell signals, or satellite radio
  • Colour stability — engineered to never turn purple or fade
  • Superior heat rejection — ceramic and crystalline films block up to 97% of infrared heat
  • 99% UV protection — across all three film grades

Cheaper films might save $200-400 upfront but cost you more in the long run through replacement, fading, and reduced performance. Learn more about the benefits of window tinting and why quality matters.

Note: The current Alberta vehicle equipment laws prohibit installing window tint on the windshield and front side windows. Although, any level of darkness can be used on back side and rear windows. On windshields, only the tinting installed by the car manufacturer is allowed, as are clear un-tinted frost shields or window stickers which do not impair the driver’s vision. Each Canadian province has its own rules and regulations and violating vehicle equipment laws can get you cited even when visiting other provinces. Some of our window tinting packages include the front windshield and front side windows. If you choose one of these packages, we assume no responsibility for your vehicle or its legality. It is up to the consumer to ensure that no provincial laws are being broken by having an automobile with an obstructed view.
